VIETNAM MOTOR SHOW 2022 – AIM FOR REDUCING EMISSION FOR THE ENVIRONMENT AND SUSTAINABLE DEVELOPMENT

Within the framework of Vietnam Motor Show 2022, Vietnam Automobile Manufacturers' Association (VAMA), Vehicles Importers Vietnam Association (VIVA) and the co-organizers hold the seminar with the theme “Introduction of green technology to reduce emissions and protect the environment".
The seminar takes place in Saigon Exhibition and Convention Center (SECC), District 7, Ho Chi Minh City. In addition to representatives from car manufacturers who are members of VAMA and VIVA, the seminar also had the participation of leading experts, representatives of relevant authorities and the great attention of the media nationwide.

During nearly 4 hours on the afternoon of October 27th, various opinions and discussions were observed on how to reach towards sustainable development for the environment in the automobile sector. At the same time, experts also offered solutions and experiences from lessons and approaches already implemented by several countries around the world.

At the seminar, Assoc. Prof. Dr. Dam Hoang Phuc, Director of Automotive Engineering Training Program – Mechanics School, Hanoi University of Science and Technology, made the presentation of "Automobile industry in the era of sustainable development".

In this presentation, Mr. Dam Hoang Phuc pointed out a majority of big cities in Vietnam have been facing air pollution. Accordingly, the average annual PM2.5 concentration in Vietnam is about 24.7 g/m3 which is 5 times higher than that recommended by the World Health Organization (WHO). According to Mr. Phuc, transportation is one of the main causes of air pollution. Meanwhile, the number of road vehicles is increasing rapidly, leading to increasingly high emissions.

Mr. Phuc indicated that vehicle electrification is one of the most important measures to reduce emissions for the transportation sector. "The electrification of road vehicles can reduce up to one-third of the greenhouse gases from transportation by 2030" - Mr. Phuc said.

Also at the seminar, Mr. Laurent Genet - General Director of the official Audi importer in Vietnam (Audi Vietnam) made a presentation with called “EV drivers expectations". In the trend of developing electric vehicles, Audi has researched and developed its own technologies for many years. All Audi products present or will be launched in the near future are aimed at environmental protection.

As for Mercedes-Benz, Mr. Do Tu Cuong - Senior Product Manager of Mercedes-Benz Vietnam delivered a presentation about “Mercedes-Benz's green initiatives contributing to emission reduction and sustainability development”.

In addition to solutions drawn from multiple research projects by a team of experts and scientists in electric vehicle manufacturing, Mercedes-Benz does not hide its ambition when saying by 2025, customers will get closer to the "alternative solution": to choose an electric car model in the product line that Mercedes-Benz introduces to the market. Accordingly, in all segments from SUV to Sedan or super luxury Mercedes-Maybach, the brand has already built up a roadmap to produce and launch electric vehicles in the market in the near future.

Currently, it can be easily seen that each car brand has its own direction and technology to save fuel, reduce emissions from petrol engines and develop electric vehicles. Yet all of them are geared towards the common goal of environment protection, public health and sustainable development. Therefore, car brands have constantly researched and improved on the basis of listening and absorbing consumers' opinions to bring the most advanced technologies that both reduce emissions and remain convenient to users.

Mr. Nguyen Thanh Trung Hieu - Business Development Director of EV1 Charging Equipment & Solutions Co., Ltd. made a presentation about "EV charging infrastructure: Opportunities and challenges" in the seminar.

In the presentation, Mr. Hieu indicated the needs and requirements of consumers and the domestic market, and clarified what should be done and must be done for all stakeholders, from users to owners in charging station systems; multi-dimensional but synchronous coordination of parties, from car manufacturers to agencies of finance, technology and management service.

Coming to the seminar this year, the representative of Coc Coc Browser made a presentation with the theme "Green growth with the perspective from Coc Coc users". Coc Coc pointed out while only 140 electric cars were sold in 2019 to the domestic market as imports, the number has been increased to more than 1,000 cars in 2021. Moreover, in early 2021, a Vietnamese automaker launched its own electric car models to supply the domestic market and get introduced worldwide. All of these are evidence of Vietnamese consumers' increasing preference for electrified cars.

According to the spokesman, the search rate for keywords such as "climate" and "environment" in recent years has rapidly advanced in Vietnam. Furthermore, a great number of 8 million out of 28 million users on this platform are interested in electric cars and 81% of all users are well aware that electric cars are less harmful to the environment than gasoline ones.

As can be seen, the sharing and discussion at the seminar aimed to find out orientations and solutions for relevant units in particular and the development of the industry in general. The seminar also created an environment to directly connect car manufacturers, exhibitors with relevant authorities and leading experts.

Through this seminar, it once again shows that VAMA and VIVA members always find a common voice in developing sustainability, protecting consumers and the living environment of the community, in line with the trend of the world.
